Bill is a full-time independent commercial mediator. Mediating since 1991, he is among the most experienced commercial mediators in the UK. He is consistently rated among the UK's leading commercial mediators by Chambers directory and by The Legal 500.

His mediation experience includes a wide range of commercial disputes such as banking, commercial contract cases, company/shareholder matters, construction and engineering, employment, fraud, IT, insurance/reinsurance, IP, medical negligence/PI, partnership, pensions, product liability, professional negligence, regulatory, shipping and sport, ranging up to 100s of millions pounds sterling in value, and including multi-party and class actions. Mediations which are in the public domain include: Dame Shirley Porter and Westminster City Council; and the disputed takeover of Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club (appointed by the Football Association).

As founder and Director of Conflict Management International (CMI), Bill serves/served as Mediation Adviser to the Governments of the UK, Russia, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria, as well as various regulators and international corporations.

Bill is accredited by CEDR (1992), a member of the CPR (New York) International Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, and a mediator for the Centre de Médiation et d'Arbitrage de Paris. A former corporate solicitor, Bill practiced law in the UK and Paris, and speaks French. He was a Director of CEDR from 1991-2002. He co-authored The ADR Practice Guide - Commercial Dispute Resolution (Butterworths, 1995 and 2000), contributed two chapters to Mediators on Mediation and lectures widely on the subject.
