Having been admitted as a solicitor in both England and South Africa, and having worked extensively as a mediator, Henry retired from legal practice at the end of 2005, but remains a trainer and writer on mediation and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Author of the Law Society's Report on civil and commercial ADR (1991) and co-author with Arthur Marriott QC of ADR Principles & Practice (1993 & 1999), he was a member of CEDR's initial mediation training faculty and is CEDR-accredited. He has acted as consultant to the Law Society, the City Disputes Panel on its establishment and the NHS Litigation Authority and Action against Medical Accidents in a clinical negligence mediation project. He is a member of the International Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, CPR Institute of Dispute Resolution, New York. Until his retirement he was a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Practitioner Member of the Law Society's specialist commercial mediation panel.

He has trained mediators extensively in the UK, Denmark, South Africa and Hong Kong and was an external examiner on the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law.

In addition to his commercial mediation practice, Henry was also a family mediator and co-founded the Family Mediators Association (of which he is a Vice-President) and the mediation practice and training programme of Resolution (of which he was the first Director of Mediation). He holds a Certificate in the Fundamentals of Psychotherapy and Counselling.
