Following initial qualification as a barrister, he requalified as a solicitor in 1981 and practised in the City as a commercial litigation lawyer with Rowe & Maw, Coward Chance (later Clifford Chance) and Manches specialising in banking, finance, insurance and reinsurance matters. He has also spent a period of time in house as Company Solicitor for a group of London market reinsurance companies. His mediation career began in 1986. He has been closely involved with the development of mediation practice and training in the UK. He was accredited by CEDR in 1991, and was a founding member of the CEDR mediation training faculty and for several years a non executive director of CEDR. He is also accredited by and conducts training seminars for ADR Group. He now practises as a full time independent commercial mediator, and his practice has grown to include a wide variety of national and international commercial matters, including many high value and multi-party claims. Cases handled have included banking, professional indemnity, property, insurance and reinsurance, marine, aviation, employment, joint venture, defamation, intellectual property and software disputes. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and of many mediation panels, including those of the Court of Appeal and the London Court of International Arbitration. He is author of numerous articles on mediation and has lectured widely at ADR seminars and conferences.
