Stephen Ruttle QC

Stephen was accredited and then registered by CEDR in 1998 and began to mediate early the following year. Mediation now accounts for the bulk of his practice. By the end of 2004 he had mediated about 200 cases. He spends about 70% of his time mediating and the balance sitting as a commercial Arbitrator. In a typical week he would expect to mediate two, and sometimes three, disputes. He has wide experience in mediating all types of cases with sums of up to £100m involved.

Stephen is an independent mediator Board Member of the Civil Mediation Council, and is on the Civil Justice Council and the Bar Council ADR Committees. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators and is a member of a number of specialist mediation panels. He is heavily involved in the Community Mediation movement, is Vice-Chair of Mediation UK and a founder Director of the Wandsworth Mediation Service.

Stephen has been in practice at Brick Court Chambers since 1978. He was appointed a QC in 1997. His practice at the Bar was primarily in the insurance, reinsurance and shipping industries.

He is married to Fiona, an artist. They have 4 children and live in Wandsworth.
